The ‘Space Technology Conclave’ held at Thiruvananthapuram was the first step in transforming Kerala into a space hub of global standards. Space Technology Experts, Scientists, Investors, Policy Makers and Startups across the globe participated in the two-day Space Conclave-Edge 2020.

The Conclave discussed possibilities for India and Kerala on the space sector and changing technology. Apart from providing space innovators with infrastructure, mentorship and global exposure, training in satellite building will be given to universities and students. The International Satellite Programme in Research and Education, ‘INSPIRE’ project will be implemented to achieve that.

Experts  discussed on Sustainable Solutions, including the Space Commission policy and the privatisation of the space sector. KSITIL is in charge of the Space Park in Thiruvananthapuram. Space Technology Application Development Ecosystem (STADE) for Companies and Startups in Satellite Data and Electronics will be implemented in collaboration with Kerala Startup Mission.

Space Park has signed a LoI with the Research Institute of Colorado, LASP, to provide an academic link to colleges and universities in Kerala, and Space Generation Advisory Council, Austria, to establish a global connect. Fifteen leading space startups, including AgniKul, Bellatrix, Skyroots and Anywaves, were part of the Conclave.

The space application arena offers a huge market of opportunities. More companies need to come up in the private sector. The Government of Kerala is aiming to create a better space technology ecosystem through the Space Park.
