Despite the ban, some Chinese companies thrive in India
Some apps that were explicitly banned have continued to grow
The centre had banned certain Chinese apps last year citing security reasons
On September 2, the government had banned 118 more apps
In November, it blocked 43 new Chinese mobile apps
In January 2021, India permanently blocked 59 apps, including the TikTok
However, at least 8 of the top 60 apps in India today are Chinese operated
Together, they get over 211 million users every month
At the time of the ban, these apps had only 96 million users
It suggests that they acquired 115 million users in the last 13 months
To cover up the Chinese link, the companies list the apps under new company names
Govt official said actions will be taken against them only after security agencies raise a red flag
