The story of Silky Cup began in 2013 when Delhi-based Gurinder Singh Sahota came across a news article about 42 school-going girls who had to use old socks, ash & sawdust during their menstrual cycle in a village near Amritsar, due to non-availability of affordable sanitary napkins.
The shocking revelation made Gurinder delve deep into the problem and conduct research in the field of menstrual hygiene. His research led him to develop an environmentally friendly re-usable and comfortable menstrual cup. Taking inspiration from his research findings, he founded his startup called Silky Cup and listed his products on popular e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.
Gurinder wanted his product to be delivered to women and girls who resided in rural areas and could not afford sanitary napkins.
Silky Cup comes handy for those worry about the monthly sum they spent on sanitary pads. Apart from that, these napkins need to be changed in every 4-6 hours. Menstrual cups save women from all these troubles.
Silky cup provides 12 hour of leak-free protection. It is washable and reusable providing the much-needed hygiene during those days. Manufactured using thermo plastic elastomer, Silky Cup is clinically tested. More importantly, a single Silky Cup can be used for 5 years.
Like every startup, Silky Cup also fought for growth and survival. Success came its way when it became part of Gurgaon-based sector agnostic incubator Huddle and received support from healthstart accelerator programme.
Low cost but longer usage is what makes silky cup different and unique. Today, Silky Cup and its founder Gurinder enjoy a key position in the line-up of socially responsible startups.
