Two Lakh lunch boxes a day
Despite extreme traffic conditions, Dabbawalas brave to deliver the home-made food to destinations on time. The accurate service and network of Dabbawalas are receiving attention globally. Dr. Pavan Agrawal, who studied the lives of Dabbawalas and obtained a PhD from it, spreads their story to the world. Dabbawala services were initiated 127 years ago. Approximately 5,000 people deliver about 2 Lakh lunch boxes daily. They collect dabbas from homes and bring them to the reach of respective people with accuracy.
Dabbawallahs and business networking
Tiffin boxes of 15 cm diameter and 30 cm high are carried as head-load by Dabbawalas. Dabbawalas operate their network as a dedication to god. Dr Pawan Agarwal says that Dabbawala business network can be a model for startups and entrepreneurs.
Flying above traffic and medians
Dabbawalas carving through the rush-hour traffic in Mumbai with their head-loads are a common sight. Today, technology adaptation is happening in all sectors. When asked if the Dabbawalas also have a scope in it, Dr. Pawan Agarwal said that there are certain hurdles. Dabbawalas who are heading to their destination with a weight of 60 kg cannot pick up their phone. Moreover, the rule is not to talk to the customer.
