Robots spreading awareness on Corona outbreak

Corona outbreak has plunged communities across the globe into a sea of concern. Death toll across the world has crossed thousands and the epidemic is still at large. Despite global organizations like WHO and UNICEF going on massive awareness campaign against the disesase, the gravity of the situation is yet to reach the masses. It is at this point of time that Kerala Startup Mission comes up with a unique initiative by launching an awareness drive using two robots.

Of the pair of the robots, developed by Asimov Robotics which is a startup incubated at KSUM, one distributes masks, sanitizer and napkins in a bid to keep Corona virus at check. The other robot screens detail about the World Health Organisation’s campaign to contain the scary disease.

Despite many awareness campaigns, people are still not quite serious about the situation. This led Asimov to experiment with robots, says Jayakrishnan, founder and CEO. As the virus spreads through physical contact, conducting awareness through robots is safe. It will also generate curiosity among people. The use of robots in the campaign has invited public attention, also considering the propensity of Coronavirus to spread though human contact. The possibility of using such robots in public places such as airports is under consideration, added Jayakrishnan.
