While conducting payment through Paytm, the transaction OTP comes via SMS is given at the end of the message. It is not visible in the SMS snippet. User will have to open the message to view the OTP. Paytm Founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma explained the reason behind this as a reply to the tweet by Aditya Rajgarhia, Instahyre Founder, which said ‘it would have been easier if OTP was visible on the message notification bar’. Vijay Shekhar said that giving OTP at the end of the message after the warning that tells users not to share OTPs in any circumstance was a well-thought-out decision to prevent fraudulent attempts and caution users from forwarding OTP SMS directly. This was kept in mind while building the Paytm user interface.
Vijay Shekhar Sharma had posted a 14-second video on Twitter citing technical difficulties in Bloomberg’s mobile app. Aditya Rajgarhia, Instahyre founder, pointed out the above said ‘inconvenience’ as a comment to that thread. To which, Vijay replied that it was not an error but a decision taken with great care. Digital Payment Transaction through Paytm has quadrupled since the COVID and Lockdown. Transactions worth over Rs 1,500 crore have been carried out in the recent months through Business Khata, the e-ledger service of Paytm.
