As of now, face masks and PPE kits are the key measures to prevent Corona. But a danger that looms over the world is a pile of used masks littered on public places. Kerala has a solution for this global issue. The devices BIN-19, which disinfects used masks using ultraviolet rays and UVSPOT, which disinfects metallic devices are the centre of attraction now. The devices BIN-19 and UVSPOT are the collective efforts of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, and VST Mobility Solutions incubated at the Kerala Startup Mission.
It is an IoT-based hardware. Masks once deposited in BIN-19 will be disinfected in its chamber. The person who deposits masks can sanitise his hands using the automatic sanitiser. It also has an automatic alert system to show when the container is full. This facility can be used to disinfect masks for healthcare workers. UVSPOT can be used in restaurants, salons and dental clinics.
BIN-19 and UVSPOT, registered under the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, operate abiding the Guidelines of the Indian Council for Medical Research. VST and Sree Chitra are also looking for market potential in other countries for their automated mask disposal. machine.
