Govt asks social media platforms to respond ASAP on the status of compliance with new IT rules
Social media firms were given a three-month deadline starting on February 25 to comply with the rules
Applicable to social media giants like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Twitter
Any platform with five million registered users in India will be considered a significant social media intermediaries
As per new rules, they are required to appoint a compliance officer and set up a grievance response mechanism
They should also provide a physical address of the company
