Govt releases Rs 36,400 Crore as GST compensation to States/UTs. This is the second tranche of payment within 15 days. Including this payment, above Rs 1.50 lakh crore has been released for the FY 2019-20. Compensation for the entire FY 2019-20 is now completed. In FY1, 8 a total GST compensation cess of ₹62,611 crore was collected.

Karnataka invites Intel to make chip-making units in the state. Karnataka Deputy C.M Ashwath Narayan held a video conference with Intel India representatives. Ashwath Narayan said the govt would ensure an easy environment for Intel units. The minister suggested Mangaluru or Belagavi for setting up units. Intel India head Nivruti Rai gave Rs 1 crore as a donation to the C.M’s Relief Fund.

Facebook introduces new feature to delete older posts. A new tab ‘Manage Activity’ has been launched for the mobile app. The ‘Trash’ option in the tab helps users move older files to trash. Such files will be deleted permanently after 30 days. ‘Archive’ option in the app helps users make certain posts private.

Kuwait needs to cut expatriate population to 30%: P.M Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah. Expat population in Kuwait accounts to 3.4 Mn out of the total 4.8 Mn. The announcement comes in the wake of economic slump in Gulf regions. Oil prices went downhill after the Covid-19, adding to the woes. Kuwait P.M also added that the nation should diversify its economy from 90% dependence on oil.

Cabinet approves Empowered Group of Secretaries and PDCs in India. The initiative aims to grow the pipeline of investible projects and FDI in India. The new mechanism will strengthen India’s prospect of becoming a $5 trillion economy. Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) has the Cabinet Secretary as the Chairperson. PDC authorities will conceptualise, strategise, and implement the projects.
