Reliance Jio raises Rs 5,656 Cr from Silver Lake Days. California-based Silver Lake Partner is a private equity firm. It will raise Jio Platforms’ equity value to Rs 4.9 Lakh Cr. Recently, Facebook agreed to buy 9.99% equity stock in Reliance Jio. Silver Lake Partner has investments in firms like Airbnb, Alibaba, Ant Financial and more.
Mobile apps don face masks to promote healthy habits during the lockdown. The new initiative ApnaMask is taken up by the community StartUpVsCOVID. Companies like MakeMyTrip, Dunzo and Zomato have changed app icons to face masks. Companies have also kicked off #ApnaDeshApnaMask campaign. Within 2 weeks, the initiative has got 100 Mn outreach across digital platforms.
The government allows e-commerce platforms to sell non-essential items. One can buy phones and laptops from online marketplaces. Non-essential items can only be delivered in orange and green zones. Smartphone brands like Xiaomi, Samsung and Vivo had already started taking orders. Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the lockdown till May 17.

Indian Army develops a remote-controlled trolley to deliver essentials. Developed by the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army. It can deliver essentials to people from a distance of 100 ft. Minimises social interaction and thus the spread of the virus. The trolley is equipped with a washbasin and dustbin. It also has a storage that can be used in hospitals and isolation wards. The army has also developed innovative surgical masks, hand sanitiser, anti-aerosolization box & thermal scanner. The Defence Research and Development Organisation built a bio-suit for medical professionals. DRDO has also made portable sanitation equipment to sanitise roads and other surfaces.
