William Tanuwijaya, Founder and CEO of Tokopedia hail from a small town of Pematangsiantar in Indonesia. Born to a Factory worker William had limited access to education. He worked for 12 hours at an Internet café and saved money for his higher studies. After his graduation he worked in various software development companies and in 2009 he launched his dream his own venture Tokopedia.
It was not easy in the beginning as William did not received any funds, after pitching for eleven times Softbank founder Masayoshi Son funded him, later in 2017 Alibaba invested in Tokopedia. With 270 million populations, Indonesia is the fastest growing internet economy in South East Asia. Tokopedia provides services on mobile recharge and bill payments.
