On continuous complaints received from the passengers regarding the overcharging on food bills by vendors, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has come up with an passenger friendly solution. IRCTC has introduced on the spot billing for payment of food items purchased on trains with Point of Sale devices. Over 2000 machines have been introduced in Mail and Express trains. This system will make the catering tariff service transparent. IRCTC has instructed all the licensees managing mail and to ensure availability of minimum 8 POS machine per rake. A special inspection team will be assigned to check the functioning of POS in all mail and express trains from January 26 till February 15. The team will ensure regular bills are issued to passengers. If any deficiency is found, a suitable penalty will be issued to the caterers.
