Startup launches handcrafted Murtle footwear with changeable straps
Care that’s lost on fashion

Shashank Pawar started his entrepreneurial journey while studying mechanical engineering at the National Institute of Technology in Warangal. It was by introducing a variety T-Shirt under the brand, Whoz High. Through his first venture, he became the merchandise partner of the film ‘Baahubali’. During his first general election campaign, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wore a Whoz High T-shirt. Shashank always wanted to do something radically innovative in the fashion industry. He also desired to do away with the waste that was the byproduct of the fashion industry. Thus he started Murtle Modular Fashion, a startup in Hyderabad that manufactures innovative footwear.
Strap changeable chappals

Handmade and long-lasting, Murtle sandals can be customized by the customer through strap replacement. Shashank came up with this idea after researching it for a long two and a half years. Biodegradable materials like white cotton are used during manufacturing sandals. Murtle customers get multiple strap patterns and it lets them flaunt a new pair every day

Partnering with traditional artisans

The product is priced at Rs 999-1999 range. An additional designer strap comes for an extra Rs 200. Murtle is providing employment to traditional artisans for making fabric straps for the sandals. Murtle has already sold more than 2,000 shoes. Apart from the Murtle platform, these sandals are available on Amazon also. The Murtle team is gearing up to release men’s sandals soon. Shashank Murtle started with a bootstrap of Rs 30 lakh. The company claims that a single Murtle user can reduce waste by 80 per cent. At a time when climate change is becoming a threat to the earth, sustainable products such as Murtle could be a small step towards the big task of tackling it.
