Sometimes your dream house comes along with certain liabilities. To overcome such liabilities, Renitha Shabu needed a job which promises at least Rs 50 a day. Searching for one such job brought forth the entrepreneur inside within Renitha.
When children from a nearby club went for a tour, Renitha prepared idli and chutney for them. When they returned from tour, they were all praise for her cooking. This made Renitha and her husband think of converting it into a business venture. Once she kicked off her Ready-To-Eat-Foods, her debts vanished in thin air. That’s how popular dishes in every Malayali household became the products of Gokulson Food Processing Unit at Angamaly.
The business Renitha Shabu had started amidst harsh economic conditions and to mitigate her familial burdens now provides a better livelihood and income to more than 30 women. Renitha and her team had started small, with a simple table-top grinder. The kitchen is open 24 hours with many working shifts. Emboldened by its huge success, the business now makes large turnovers.
Majority of Gokulson Foods staff are working during their free time after completing household chores. Employees can work for any amount of time. Income will also be based on the working hours. Gokulson Foods has tie-up with above 10 agencies, catering units, hospitals, canteens and college hostels.
Their orders come from mouth publicity. When Renitha says that she hasn’t done any advertising for her products, her confidence as an entrepreneur is being reflected. Her husband, K.K Shabu is supportive in her venture. Experiences from life are the biggest asset which any entrepreneur can posses. Entrepreneurs like Renita build their success path by bringing the best out of such experiences.
