Discussions on awareness for early cancer prevention, cancer detection and technology-assisted cancer treatment was the main highlight of the Canquer Annual Symposium. The three day long event was held at Kochi. The program is jointly organized by KSUM and Cochin Cancer Research Center. Notable people in the field of Cancer care took part in the program.
What is Canquer?
Canquer is an Annual Symposium organized by the Cochin Cancer Research Center and Kerala Startup Mission, which aims at the growth of cancer treatment. It is a program where experts including oncology specialists in the areas of cancer prevention, awareness, diagnosis and prevention come together. The theme of Canquer 2019 was the importance of technology in the treatment of cancer and how to leverage feasible cancer treatment to the public.
Preventive measures
Health Minister K. K Shailaja said that there should be proposals and solutions to make cancer detection and medicine available to the common man. CUSAT Vice Chancellor Prof K. N. Madhusoodhanan pointed out that it is imperative to move forward with Scientific Technology Solutions for data access. The upcoming cancer technology incubator in the state can play a crucial role in this. Although most of cancer is curable, we are not able to bring this awareness to the attention of the public. Suggestions for remedies on this issue rose in the general symposium.
Of the 1.7 million cancer cases in the country, 60% are preventable. The economic way of curing cancer is early detection and early prevention of the same.
Battling Cancer
MoU has been signed for infrastructure to set up a cancer research incubator in the state. Canquer also had a clinic for early detection of breast cancer. A virtual community that integrates startups offering cancer care solutions with industry and clinical experts, was also formed at the symposium. Morgan became topped in the hackathon for finding cancer care solutions. Blogchain and Info 360 degree became the first and second runners up respectively. The three-day Cancer Symposium was jointly organized by the Cochin Cancer Research Center and Kerala Startup Mission.
