Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the name says it all! Actor, singer, philanthropist, producer and torchbearer of women empowerment, she is one of the few Bollywood actors who have been fortunate enough to spread their wings globally. In the past two decades, apart from her successful ventures in cinema, Chopra emerged as a promising entrepreneur.
Married to American singer and actor Nick Jonas, she started her entrepreneurial journey in 2016 by launching her production house Purple Pebble Pictures in Mumbai. Within four years, the company produced 10 films, the web series If I Could Tell You Something and the music video It’s My City. The company’s latest outing Sky is Pink, starring Farhan Akthar and Chopra in lead roles, narrating the real-life story of Aisha Choudhary, a young author and motivational speaker, was a success. The production house’s Marathi films Ventilator and Paani had bagged the National Awards.
Chopra has left her footprint as a tech investor lately. Her first investment was in 2018 for the welfare of Holberton School, a school that teaches software coding. She is also one of the members of the school’s board of advisors. In the same year, she invested in American entrepreneur Whitney Wolfe Herd’s dating app Bumble. She prefers companies with a social commitment or spearheaded by women. The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and UN Foundation Girl Up Champion, Chopra has a charity organisation, The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education.
Her journey goes on. Recently, she was lauded for her speech at the World Economic Forum 2020 in Davos where she exhorted women to come forward. “I want to live in a place where a woman’s ability to succeed should be a human basic right, and not based on geography or chance,” she said.
