Those who are the worst affected by COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdown are the daily wage workers. However, designer and entrepreneur Lakshmi Menon teaches how to overcome this situation posed by COVID with Co-Veedu. Her concept Co-Veedu is a tiny house made of cardboard that upholds compassion and cooperation. Every day, deposit a small volume of cereals and pulses like rice, green gram, rice flakes and Bengal gram from our part to the Co-Veedu, which is a symbol of care. By the time the lockdown concludes, there will be a good quantity which can be distributed to the needy.
The idea sprouted in Lakshmi’s mind on the day lockdown was declared. When she shared it with her friends, many have come forward to participate in it. Later, a video explaining the making of Co-Veedu was posted on the internet. One can download its template. Making Co-Veedu will help those who are at home spend their time productively.
Lakshmi came in the limelight when she helped the weavers of Chendamangalm recover from the devastation of the floods by creating Chekkutty dolls. She is also the brain behind the concept of seed pen and Shayya, an eco-friendly handcrafted mattress for the poor. People have heartily welcomed her Co-Veedu concept, which is derived from the name COVID itself.
