Govt of India to set up 1 crore data centres and massive public WiFi networks
The network will provide easily accessible public WiFi hotspots across the country
Union Cabinet gave nod to the proposal by the DoT
The countrywide Wi-Fi network would work through public data offices (PDOs) across India
There would be no license fee or registration for PDOs
Meanwhile, PDOAs and app providers would be required to register with DoT but without a fee
In 2020, India had nearly 700 million internet users across the country
