When Itteera Kavungal started Boxer Apparels in 2004, his partner was renowned footballer I M Vijayan. Initially, sportswear and sports goods were the main products. In 2006, focus shifted to the uniform segment. First factory was set up in Chalakudy. Later a facility was opened in UAE, too. With the launch of exports to Europe, the Middle East and African countries, the potential of the venture expanded.
Boxer Apparels mainly focuses on hospital, hotel, school, industrial and sports uniforms. It also makes socks, t-shirts, trousers and blazers.
Boxer products come with own printing and embroidery work. High quality raw materials from India and abroad are used for this.
Many businesses were attempted at before zeroing in on the present one. It is the urge to succeed anywhere that has made Itteera a successful entrepreneur as we know him today. However, he says unhealthy competition is the biggest challenge facing this business sector.
Itteera says lack of skilled workforce is another major challenge. Many technical jobs are get done by people from outside Kerala. This increases production costs.
Itteera, who started small and became a big entrepreneur, says there is huge potential for entrepreneurs in sports sector in Kerala.
