Bihar farmer cultivates world’s most expensive vegetable, which costs Rs 1 Lakh per kg
38-year- old Amresh Singh from Bihar is reportedly the first Indian farmer to cultivate hop-shoots
Six years ago, he sold a kilogram of hop-shoots in the international market for £1,000
This is now being produced on a trial basis in the Aurangabad district of Bihar
It was first planted in Himachal Pradesh
Discovered in the 11th century, hop-shoot used to be a flavouring agent in beer
It gradually became herbal medicine and, then, a vegetable
The shoots contain an acid called humulones and lupulones, which helps to an extent in killing cancer cells
