Instagram to roll out IGTV advertising. The social media app plans to put advertisements in longer videos. Instagram is looking for top video creators to partner with on ad tests. Partners will receive a 55% share of all advertising in IGTV. Once this comes into effect, Instagram can earn revenue from IGTV revenue. Instagram currently has ads in its main feed of updates and in stories. Instagram will compete with the likes of YouTube after activating advertising feature.

Charter Communications came up with free broadband for households. T-Mobile will raise data allowances to schools & students via digital learning programs. Aim is to make getting online less expensive. US has enforced social distancing and online interaction following the pandemic. Telecom companies have also lifted data caps.

Bill Gates steps down after 45 years on Microsoft board. Gates had stopped indulging in Microsoft’s daily operations a decade ago. Gates and Paul Allen co-founded Microsoft in 1975. Allen, a childhood friend of Gates, stepped down in 1983. He died of cancer in 2018. One of the world’s richest man, Gates owns 1.36% of Microsoft’s shares. He has also stepped down from the board of Berkshire Hathaway.He intends to use the time for philanthropy.

SBI to invest Rs 7,250cr in Yes Bank. It makes SBI’s stake up to 49%. SBI will buy 725cr shares at Rs 10 per piece. Other investors to contribute Rs 5000crICICI, HDFC & high net worth individuals Rakesh Jhunjhunwala & R. Damani to contribute. The size of the ‘problem book’ of Yes Bank is estimated at close to Rs 80,000 cr. Yes Bank has been struggling to find investors. On Mar 5, RBI imposed a moratorium on withdrawals. Former SBI executive Prashant Kumar now administers Yes Bank.
Govt of Kerala launches a mobile app detailing Coronavirus. The app is named GoK Direct. GoK Direct is launched in the wake of the spread of false information. The app will provide exact info on Covid-19 to avoid panic. The app is available both on Android and iOS phones. Ordinary mobile phones can access the facility through SMS alert. Go Direct is developed by the Information and Public Relation Department of Kerala.
