TikTok parent ByteDance on a hiring spree. The world’s largest startup has started recruiting for 10,000 open positions. The move comes at a time when global corporate giants are reducing staff. About a third of the recruitments will be for high-end level research or software coding jobs. ByteDance CEO Zhang Yiming says the firm aims to hit 100K staff globally by 2020. The social media giant aims to come on par with Alibaba’s number of staff.
Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru’s researchers are working on a safe, economic and faster tool for COVID-19 diagnosis. The tool works based on respiratory, cough and speech sounds. The 8-member team has named the project Coswara. Once validated, it can give results faster than the current method. It poses minimum risk of exposure to healthcare professionals. The device would also record the patient’s health status, age, gender and location.

We have to wait until 2021 for the situation to improve. It is unclear whether the financial sector will show a steep or gradual rise. People will come out when public spaces turn safe, only then consumption will resume. Across industries, existing work patterns will change. Large companies should also take precaution. Govt of India announces Rs 2.3 Cr support for developing indigenous video conference tech. The support is part of the Innovation challenge under the Digital India initiative. Ministry of electronics and IT will select 10 entities/startups in the first round. Selected startups will get Rs 5 Lakh each for developing the prototype of the product. In 2nd round, 3 selected entities will get Rs 20 Lakh each to develop final product. The winner will get a contract to deploy the solution for use by Govt of India and state govts. The last date to apply is April 30, 2020.
