Health Ministry plans to ban e-cigarettes in India. Government’s drug committee conclude that e-cigarettes can be defined as drugs. The decision is in compliance with Section 26(A) of Drugs and Cosmetics Act. According to WHO report, there are 266.8 Mn tobacco users in India. Cigarette market in the country is valued at $12 Bn. A final decision regarding the matter will be announced soon.
MX Player to receive $125 Mn investment from PayTm, Tencent against purchase of equity. The online video streaming platform has 75 Mn daily active users. The app was relaunched as an OTT platform offering vernacular content for Indian users. Times Internet will continue to be the major stakeholder after the investment. MX Player currently functions on an ad-based model. MX Player will compete with the likes of YouTube, Hotstar, Amazon Prime & Voot.

Logistics tech startup Freight Tiger receives $8 Mn investments from Lightspeed and others. Mumbai-based firm gives real-time logistics visibility for the freight industry. The firm extends service to logistics companies, transporters & consigners through mobile app. Freight Tiger aims to raise its customer base & expand AI-based operations through the funding. The company claims to have 170 customers including Apollo Tyres, Saint Gobin and JSW Steel. Freight Tiger is competing with the likes of Delhivery, Rivigo, and Blackbuck.
ഹൈദരാബാദ് എയര്‍പോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ ഫെയ്സ് റെക്കഗ്നീഷന്(FR) സിസ്റ്റം. രാജീവ് ഗാന്ധി ഇന്റര്‍നാഷണല്‍ എയര്‍പോര്‍ട്ടിലേക്കുള്ള എന്‍ട്രിയിലാണ് പാസഞ്ചേഴ്സിന് ഫെയ്സ് റെക്കഗ്നീഷന് സംവിധാനമൊരുക്കിയത്. കേന്ദ്രസര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ ഡിജി യാത്ര പ്രോഗ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാഗമായാണ് ട്രയല്‍ നടക്കുന്നത്. പേപ്പറുകളും വിവിധ ഐഡന്റിറ്റി ചെക്കിംഗും ഒഴിവാക്കിയുള്ള യാത്രയാണ് FR ഉറപ്പാക്കുന്നത്. 180 യാത്രക്കാര്‍ വിമാനത്താവളത്തില്‍ ഡിജി യാത്രാ ട്രയലിന് സന്നദ്ധരായി.ജൂലൈ 31 വരെ ട്രയല്‍ തുടരും, ഡൊമസ്റ്റിക് യാത്രക്കാര്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമായിരിക്കും ട്രയല്‍. ഡൊമസ്റ്റിക് ഡിപ്പാര്‍ച്ചറിലെ 1,3 ഗേറ്റുകള്‍ക്ക് സമീപമാണ് FR രജിസ്ട്രേഷന്‍ കൗണ്ടറുകള്‍ ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളത്.
Face Recognition (FR) system for entry launched at Hyderabad airport. Trials are being carried out by Central Government’s Digi Yatra Program. 180 passengers volunteered for Digi Yatra trials at the airport. Trials will be conducted till July 31 and are open to domestic fliers only. FR will ensure paperless travel and avoid multiple identity checks. Passengers can voluntarily register for the new digital experience.
