The Centre approves Rs 15,000 Cr for COVID-19 emergency package. Rs 7,774 Cr will go for immediate emergency response. The rest to be utilised for medium-term support between a year to four years. Project to be implemented in 3 phases between 2020 and 2024. Focus will be on the development of diagnostics, medical equipment and drugs & state health systems. The Health Ministry has already disbursed Rs 4,113 Cr to all states and UTs.

Alibaba invests $50 Mn in BigBasket to meet lockdown needs. The funding came from a bridge round, aimed at meeting short term expenses. Major E-grocers have witnessed a surge in demand after the lockdown. Hike in orders led to disruption in delivery due to manpower shortage. BigBasket intends to hire 10000 additional workers to meet the demand. The funding would solve the capital needs of BigBasket in the new situation.
Japan asks its firms located in China to relocate. The country has earmarked $2.2 Bn to help manufacturers shift production out of China. The financial aid comes as part of Japan’s economic stimulus package. 220 Bn yen for companies shifting back to Japan and 23.5 Bn yen for the ones relocating to other countries. China is Japan’s biggest trading partner. Automobile makers manufacturing for Chinese domestic market may likely stay put.
