NITI Aayog proposes Giga factories in India for making Lithium-ion batteries. The decision is in compliance with the FAME II scheme. NITI Aayog has proposed that only electric two and three-wheelers would be sold in India post-2023. Once the factories become functional, India will have domestically produced lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are required for running electric vehicles. NITI Aayog is planning to set up 3-4 factories in the next three years.
