The US remains the most preferred destination for international students for the third straight year, according to the 2018 Open Doors Report.
The report reveals that over 10 lakh international students, including those from Kerala, depend on the US for their higher education. In fact, Indian students make up the second largest population of international students on US campuses.
The Open Door report also suggests that over 32% of Indian students obtain optional practical training in the United States which allows them to stay in the US after their studies and gain hands-on experience from a firm.
Kathleen Hosie, Information officer at the US Consulate General in Chennai, in an exclusive conversation with Nisha Krishnan, Channel I’M, opined that Indian students continue to gravitate to STEM subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. 73% of students from India in the previous year pursued STEM degrees.
Kathleen Hosie also advised the students from Kerala who wish to study in the US to seek assistance from expert education advisers at US consulate Chennai to achieve their dream. Students can also visit usief.org or visit the Facebook page of US Consulate General Chennai.
