RBI has proposed a mobile app which will come to the aid of visually impaired people to identify all denominations of Indian banknotes. Currently, only INR 100 and notes of higher denominations have sensory aids for visually challenged people. RBI has solicited tenders from technological institutions to develop the app. The app is expected to help challenged people identify all legal Indian denominations through a mobile captured photo of the note. The app would send audio feedback to the user once it recognizes the note. The app would benefit about 80 lakh people once it is functional.
