At Industry Innovation Meet, hospitals & startups collaborated to solve problems in health sector

Kerala Startup Mission launches a new collaboration model which aims at establishing an industry connect for startups in Kerala. The Industry Innovation Meet at Kozhikode focused on the need for startups to work in conjunction with the industry. The first edition of the industry innovation meet discussed the need for hospitals and startups to work together to solve the problems pertaining to the health sector.

The discussions were centered around the point at which the industry can meet the startups, said CMA President KA Ajayan. The industry needs innovation, technology and support from the startups. Representatives from nine major hospitals in Kozhikode and startups working in the health sector were part of the meet. Product presentation of startups in the healthcare sector was also held.

Aims for a cost-effective solution

There is a huge scope for startups to associate with health care sector, said Sameer PT, CEO, Aster MIMS. There are a lot of challenges in the hospital and health care space and startups can come up with cost-effective and innovative solutions, said Dr. Vineeth Abraham, BMH Director and Cardio-thoracic Surgeon. This was a common platform to discuss various issues related to digitization in the health sector, said Dr. Narayanan Kutty Warrier, Medical Director, MVR Cancer Center.

The hospital representatives also put forward specifications and requirements for bringing cost-effective solutions in various sectors such as hospital administrative management, digital adoption in the health sector, IT-based data-sharing platform among hospitals, time management for patients consulting and community-level services.

Collective Platform for the Malabar Medical innovation zone

The Industry innovation meet also decided upon implementing the problem statement put forward in the meet and a consensus has also been reached to establish a collective platform for the Malabar Medical innovation zone. Kerala Startup Mission will come in the aid of raising funds for setting up solution-building startups in the health sector through investor cafe, Idea Day grant, low-interest loan and CSR funding. Calicut Management Association also took part in the innovation meet.
