Free rides for women in DTC buses with pink tickets

A new addition to the welfare schemes introduced by Arvind Kejriwal is gaining traction among the public. Pink ticket scheme, helps women in Delhi to enjoy free rides in public buses. Free rides can be availed in over 5500 DTC & Cluster buses in Delhi. The free of cost travel scheme began on Tuesday with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia saying it will ensure their safety and increase their role in the national capital’s economy.

Absolutely free

Conductors will distribute pink tickets, valued at Rs 10, to women passengers. The amount will be later on reimbursed by the government. About 30% travelers in DTC buses are women. This is when public buses in Delhi alone carry over 45 Lakh passengers daily. There are around 3,700 DTC buses & 1,800 cluster buses under Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS). Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal had earlier introduced Free Ride scheme in June. But it didn’t happen due to delay from the side of DMRC.

Safety is the first priority

In the wake of rising crimes against women in the capital city, initiatives like Pink ticket scheme will ensure safe and secure travel for women. Arvind Kejriwal had announced that free-ride for women in both DTC and cluster buses will start from October 29. Women employed in Delhi government offices, local bodies and undertakings will not be entitled for any transport allowance if they opt for a free ride in DTC and cluster buses, according to government reports.
