WhatsApp under threat of hacking through mp4 files. Experts say that smartphones may be hacked through specially crafted mp4 files. One billion users downloading mp4 files are under threat. Facebook has also come up with reports confirming the hacking threat through WhatsApp.
Older versions of WhatsApp likely to be affected than version 2.19.274 / 2.19.100 iOS. WhatsApp authorities have recommended updating to the latest version to tackle the virus. Though the reach and magnitude of the threat is not exactly confirmed, there exists strong possibilities of theft and malware injection on sensitive files on the phone. Reports also state that data theft and hacking may be caused by virus-infected GIFs. Above 400 Mn people are active subscribers of the platform in India.
