COVID-19: FM announces Rs1.7 trn relief plan on 2nd day of lockdown. A move to help underprivileged, poor & migrant workers affected by the lockdown. The relief package falls under PM Gareeb Kalyan Scheme. The scheme has two parts — cash transfer and food security. 800 million poor people in India will get 5 kg of rice/wheat per month free of cost. It is in addition to the 5 kg they already receive. 87 Mn farmers will benefit from the PM-KISAN payment of Rs 2,000. Two million health workers to benefit from the medical insurance scheme. The insurance covers Rs 50 lakh per person. ASHA workers, sanitation workers, paramedics, doctors & nurses will avail the insurance cover.
