The business community across the globe is dealing with a big challenge as the COVID-19 and the lockdown have been crushing the economy for the past two months. Surveys indicate that even if the lockdown gets lifted, people are less likely to return to public places and business centres due to fear of infection. Surveys show that public gathering places including shopping malls may remain vacant even after the withdrawal of the lockdown.
About 78% of respondents of a survey conducted across 200 districts in India were of the opinion that the government should strengthen e-commerce services. The majority preferred buying products from nearby stores post the lockdown. Only 4% showed interest in returning to malls for purchase.
About 26% of the respondents said that they would like to purchase from e-commerce platforms, while 41% said they would rely on local stores.
Majority of customers are looking forward to local stores commencing home delivery services. Looks like, certain habits that got deeply ingrained in people’s mind during the lockdown may continue in the coming days.
