Kerala’s semi high-speed rail project gets finance ministry nod
‘SilverLine’ will connect state capital and Kasaragod
Project will cost Rs 64,000 crore
Kerala Rail Development Corporation (K-Rail) told to expedite land acquisition
Japanese agency JICA had earlier promised Rs 33,700 crore but later curtailed exposure
State asked to hold further talks with JICA
As per project, it will take just four hours to cover 529.45 km
Current running time is 12 hours
TVM-Ernakulam stretch will be covered in 90 minutes
It presently takes 4 hours
K-Rail expects $ 1 billion in funding from Asian Development Bank
Will seek $ 500 million assistance from Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
Project requires 185 hectares of railway land and 1,198 hectares of private land
SilverLine will run parallel to existing railhead from Kasaragod to Tirur
Alternative green-field alignment to be readied for Tirur-Thiruvananthapuram stretch
Trains will have stops at Kollam, Chengannur,Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Tirur, Kozhikode, and Kannur
