The Income Tax department has launched its new e-filing portal, http://www.incometax.gov.in. with new features to make IT returns filing easier. Taxation platform Tax2win reported that the new portal offers a wide range of services, including ‘selection’, ‘pre-chatbot facility’, ‘multiple tax payment methods’, ‘enhanced help session with user manuals and videos’, ‘user-friendly dashboard’ and ‘secure logging options.’

Users can use the tab on the top side of the website for personal assistance. The ‘Application’ tab will give guidance on the process to file ITRs and related forms. Reduction, refund status, tax slab and other related information are also available on the tab. Scroll down to see ‘e-verification’, ‘Aadhaar Linking’, ‘Refund Status’ and ‘ITR Status’ services. Scrolling down further will take the user to the improved and user-friendly ‘Help’ Section. Detailed user manuals, FAQs and videos will give an idea about the use of various services on the portal. In addition, a chatbot and helpline are available for guidance and assistance.

Individuals are required to register and log in to avail all the services offered by the portal. One can find the ‘Register’ tab on the top right corner. Registered members can log in with their user ID and password. There is an e-file menu for filing forms, returns and tax e-pay and a grievance option for filing a complaint. An extensive help menu is available on the dashboard itself.

Click on the ‘My Profile’ option to view and edit your profile. Updating contact details regularly will ensure uninterrupted communication between the person and the department. On the left side of the portal, one can see instructions to complete the profile. One can access the portal in different languages. Chatbot service is also ensured for resolving doubts.
