By producing a racing car of Formula 3 specifications and an all-terrain mode vehicle, students of Vimal Jyoti Engineering College are creating wonders. These cars having automotive expertise is the product of R&D department of the college. The Society of Automotive Engineers workshop in the college aims to foster entrepreneurship and innovations among student community.
Formula 3 specifications
The racing car was developed by the SAE club. The vehicle was designed for the Formula Design Challenge Event 2015 says Assistant Professor Jestin C Jose. A bullet engine of 500 CC is fitted to the vehicle. But due to various reasons, the engine was discarded later. After various researches, 600 CC engine found in Tata Nano is used here.
The only Keralite team in the SAE Event 2017
Kannur Vimal Jyoti Team participated in the SAE international event 2017 and they were the only team to take part in it. The team also secured 25th position in the ESI event 2019. The all terrain vehicle is equipped with a 310 CC engine. Brick starter engine is used. Chromolin material is used for the vehicle. The vehicle has a disk brake for all four tyres and a regular Ackerman steering is employed.
Encouraging innovations
The college authorities are in plans to launch a product development center in the campus, says T.D John, Dean, R&D Department at Vimal Jyothi College.
