Increased amounts of wastewater and the lack of treating facilities are the major problems faced by Kerala. Urban areas are witnessing mushrooming of housing clusters is small plots and this, in turn, is resulting in septic tanks being placed too close to wells. This leads to water contamination and outbreak of epidemics. It is in this context that Ecodew Pure Water Solutions is starting to gain traction. Ecodew is founded by classmates and chemical engineers Muhammed Nujoom and Akhil Johnny.
Ecodew introduced a wastewater treatment product. Ecodew helps recycle wastewater from kitchen and toilet and makes it reusable for flushing or cleaning car or for watering plants.
The wastewater is not allowed to go underground and thus water in the wells stays uncontaminated.
Vegetable-based natural extracts are used for water treatment. Neem, basil, and many other ingredients are used for making the product. The product was originally developed for industries.
By using it for household chores, Ecodew Pure Water Solutions helps in increasing the groundwater levels over a period of time and reduce water scarcity. The company scaled down the product after realizing the social impact of their product and made it available in households and hotels.
The product is currently available both for consumer and commercial segments. There are two methods of product usage. First, the water comes in the settling tank where the herbal extracts are dosed into. This way, the waste, and other solid particles get separated from water and become settled in the tank. The purified water will be released for filtration. Sand and carbon filters are used for filtration. Sand particles in different grades will then be loaded into a pressurized filter. Active carbon from coconut shell charcoal is used during filtration.
