Historian and author Manu S Pillai explains about the need for design thinking

Most often, people in the past gathered information based on records or printed matter. But apart from that, art and architecture of the old times has a lot to teach us too. They give us a picture on the culture and dressing styles of people in the past times. Records gives you only one part of the puzzle. Only art and architecture can give a full view on the how people in the past designed their living spaces and conditions, says Manu. S. Pillai, renowned author and historian.

Need for an aesthetic culture

While we are here on the earth for a short period of time, we must spend that time living in an aesthetic quality, adds Manu. He adds that the biggest discrimination ever would be gender bias. In his third book, Manu details about women thinkers in the history of India. Today, women deserves special recognition even in the workplaces. Manu says that design thinking promotes aesthetic culture to a great extent in India.

Equaling women with men

While today’s generation has correct and continuous access to education, there is an imminent need to emphasize on betterment of education for women. Girls tend to think better than boys these days. Women are beginning to wonder why they should stay behind. They are breaking all walls of restrictions imposed by the society. While the gender bias prevails as a social evil, the society needs to learn a lot from women, added Manu.
