India sends first vaccine doses to Africa under WHO’s COVAX programme

The made-in-India vaccines were shipped to the COVAX facility in Africa on Tuesday

WHO had given emergency use authorisation for Serum Institute’s vaccine candidate

Serum Institute of India (SII) is the world’s largest vaccine maker

SII will also deploy the Novavax vaccine mainly for poor and middle-income countries, soon

So far, India has shipped over 17 million vaccine doses to more than two dozen countries
