U.S. government announces award for best ‘next generation’ masks
Winners will receive $500,000 prize money
Contest is held by Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will join the programme
Goal is to address common problems caused by masks
Competition will have two stages
One is redesigning of existing masks and the other is designing using new technology
10 winners will receive $10,000 to make prototype of masks
Second step is to explain how new design responds to an imaginary situation
Here, physical prototypes of masks are scrutinised
Five winners will receive a total of $ 400,000
Last date to apply for the first phase is April 21
