Alibaba group to launch first fully owned e-commerce biz in India. The initiative will happen through its subsidiary, UCWeb. Alibaba Group owns 3% stake in Snapdeal. UCWeb’s UC Browser has 130 Mn active users in India since its launch in 2009.
Nasscom opens doors for Japanese investments in India startups. 26 innovative Indian startups make their pitch in Tokyo. More than 125 Japanese investors took part in pitch sessions. The session was held in partnership with NASSCOM & the Embassy of India. The founders look to raise a sum of $2 Mn to $40 Mn.

L’Oreal arm invests in early stage VC fund Fireside Ventures. Investment aims at co-creating beauty trends of the future. The funding is made through L’Oreal corporate VC fund launched last year. Fund is aiming to build Rs 100 Cr consumer brands from India. L’Oreal employs 1,600 in India and runs two manufacturing units.

Google to pay $170 Mn fine for sharing YouTube data from kids. The settlement comes after the firm has violated Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act 1998. The law states that parental consent is needed before publishing details of underage kids. YouTube will work with video creators to label material for kids. YouTube has its own service, YouTube Kids, for children.
