What investors are looking while investing

Bagging investment is one of the top priorities of startups and entrepreneurs. But, what does an investor look for in a startup before investing? What type of startups are they interested in funding? What qualities make a startup founder fit for securing investment? Channeliam.com asks investment groups and venture capitalists in Kerala.

The startup needs to be energetic

Digvijay Singh, COO of Indian Angel Network, says startups should always be energy efficient. Investors will have lots of choices. Many entrepreneurs approach them for investment. But investors expect the best among them. Hence, don’t be disappointed when you don’t get an investment. Founders who gear up for investment should never be aggressive. Do not put pressure on business partners. The frustration in founders can have a negative impact. The investor should be seen as a business partner. Digvijay Singh tells that startups should give respect to the investors.

The Passionate Promoter

The passionate promoter becomes the face of the company when it comes to investing, says Bennett, Coleman & Co. Limited Chief Manager Nashid Ninar. Promoters will be evaluated on how passionate they are and what their business plans are. Investments will attract consumer products. Nashid Ninar says the value created by the startup is important to the investor.

Investment is not a charity

Balram Nair, Vice President of Chennai Angels, makes it clear that investment is not for charity, it rather looks to yield high returns. An investable company is one that can pay back more than twice the amount of the investment. Investors give prime importance to investable companies. Therefore, the main objective of the investors is to ensure that the companies that they invest in have the capacity to give them profitable returns, says Balram Nair.

Large market potential for wearable technology

There is a demand for startups that provide technological solutions to the problems facing by the world, says Ragini Bajaj Chowdhary, director Strategic Initiatives, Caspian Impact Investment Pvt Ltd. She said that wearable technology also has huge market potential.
