Byju’s App has entered the top 10 list of the most-downloaded edtech apps in Google Playstore in India. In the current scenario, which is favourable for the edtech industry, this is a remarkable feat for an Indian startup. The malayali community can rejoice as this is a recognition to the idea of an entrepreneur from Kannur. An interesting fact is that in April,  a time when the lockdown was very strict, Byju’s was in the top 10 most-searched and downloaded app by Indians.

Byju’s app has a total of 5 Cr registered users. Out of them, 35 Lakh are paid edtech content subscribers. In the previous year, Byju’s earned a total revenue of Rs 2,800 Cr. This means the company experienced double growth compared to the year before. The situation is the same for competitor firms like Vedantu.

Meanwhile YouTube Kids became the most downloaded app in India in April. Over 1 crore people installed the app in April in India. That means 16% of the app downloads in India were YouTube Kids. 10% people in the US have downloaded YouTube Kids. Google Classroom is the second most installed app. Google Classroom received 13% of downloads in India in April.

The survey indicates that lockdown has attracted more people to technology-based apps. Lockdown and social distancing proved to be a good time for technology solution startups.
