COVID-19: FM announces Rs1.7 trn relief plan on 2nd day of lockdown. A move to help underprivileged, poor & migrant workers affected by the lockdown. The relief package falls under PM Gareeb Kalyan Scheme. The scheme has two parts — cash transfer and food security. 800 million poor people in India will get 5 kg of rice/wheat per month free of cost. It is in addition to the 5 kg they already receive. 87 Mn farmers will benefit from the PM-KISAN payment of Rs 2,000. Two million health workers to benefit from the medical insurance scheme. Spain to deploy fleet of robots to fight coronavirus. Robots will be able to test 80,000 people a day on symptoms of Covid-19. Robots will expand testing capacity and reduce human exposure to the infection. The robots wil be equipped with swift testing capabilities to fight the pandemic. The fleet will also help to multiply the 15,000-20,000 tests Spain conducts daily. Spain is the second hardest hit country in Europe due to corona outbreak. The country has recorded 1,756 deaths so far due to the pandemic.

Big Bazaar launches home delivery in metro cities for lockdown period. Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Gurugram will avail of the service. The move comes after Flipart, Amazon, Grofers etc have stalled or are curtailing delivery services. Big Bazaar shared contact no:s of its outlets where customers can call and place orders. The decision will benefit customers to avail groceries during the 21-day lockdown period. Shops dealing with food, groceries and essentials will remain open during the lockdown.

Bhoomitra Sena Club, St Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, introduces eco-friendly masks. The masks made of cotton and muslin cloths are reusable.One can reuse it by washing it with soap, sterilising in boiling water & drying out in the sun. Use a box to keep it while outside; make sure both mask & box are properly sterilised later. A video explaining the making is available on the college’s YouTube channel. The initiative is in association with Haritha Kerala Mission, EKM, & Suchitwa Mission, EKM. The members have so far made around 2000 masks. Distributed them to Ernakulam police and various panchayaths in the district.
